Here I Am, Lord

We Are All Called to Serve

At the Jan. 14 Masses, Father Kevin challenged us to think about how God is calling us. Specifically, he spoke of our many volunteer opportunities. What is God calling you to do?

Passion Play

Actors and actresses are needed for “Make Us Believers,” the contemporary musical Passion Play that will be performed in March in the Ryan Center.

Auditions for the solo singing parts for Jesus, Mary, Peter, John, Veronica, Judas, Pilate, Pilate’s wife, Herod and Caiaphas will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23, and Thursday, Jan. 25, in the church.

You need not audition to be in the general cast — adults and children are encouraged to participate by coming to the rehearsals. In years past, entire families have volunteered together for the performance.

Starting Jan. 30, general rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the church. Students and adults act in the play and help with production. All are welcome to participate.

This play has been performed annually at St. Alphonsus Church on the Friday and Saturday before Palm Sunday. This year’s performances will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 23, and at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 24, in the Ryan Center. The performance is open to the public — a free-will offering is appreciated.

We hope you and your children will take advantage of this great Lenten opportunity to be in the cast.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word

Our Children’s Liturgy of the Word needs teachers to bring the Word of God to our young ones – preschool to second grade – during the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass. As the Liturgy of the Word begins in church, the children move to the school where they experience readings translated for their level of comprehension followed by discussion and age-appropriate activities. The children return to church after the Prayers of the Faithful. Teacher training and instructional materials are provided.

We need new ushers! Our ushers are instrumental in creating an atmosphere of hospitality and friendliness at Masses. They assist with seating, gather the collection and distribute the Sunday bulletins. We are especially in need of ushers for the 11:30 a.m. Mass and the 5 p.m. Mass on the new side, so please call soon!

Adult Choir

We need new members for the Adult Choir, especially sopranos. Teens as well as adults are welcome. The choir time counts toward service hours for students.  The Adult Choir sings at the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Mass as well as Christmas, Holy Week and Confirmation Masses. Practices are on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. in the church.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium — a class that serves preschoolers and kindergartners as part of our CCD program – is attracting a large number of children! We need several teen and/or adult assistants to help with the class, which is held on Mondays from 6 to 7:15 p.m. in the school.

You need to be able to commit to attending Monday evenings when CCD is in session, Jan. 8 through May 8.  Training will be provided.  Documentation of volunteer service hours will be provided for teen helpers. Share the joy of our faith!

Gift Bearers

Bringing the offertory gifts to the altar during Mass is a beautiful way to become a part of our liturgy.

We are always looking for gift bearers and encourage you to make this part of your spiritual journey. To sign up for a particular Mass, simply go to and look for the Offertory Gifts signup. Or you may call the office at 724-935-1151 and we will sign you up.
