Under the direction of St. Alphonsus science teacher Dr. David Blozowich, 10 students won first-place awards and three placed second at this year’s Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science competition, which was held May 14-15 at Penn State University.

First-place winners were eighth-grader Michael King and seventh-graders Gregory Burnet, Karu Mbugua, Kara Mihm, Vanessa Moats, Andrew Patsy, Jane Pawlowicz, Luke Petro, Matt Scholl, and Andrew Skrastins.

Second-place winners were seventh-grader Grant Cunningham, and eighth-graders Emma MacDonald and Matt Zagrocki. 

Seventh-grader Matt Scholl received a perfect score of 5.0 at the state competition.
