Feeding the Hungry – Gifts for Our Lenten Journey

Jesus makes a very real journey through Lent on his way to Jerusalem. Along the way Jesus is tempted, reveals his glory to three of his closest disciples, heals a man born blind, offers salvation to a Samaritan woman at the well, and raises Lazarus from the dead.

These people all received something from Jesus to give them hope — a light at the end of the tunnel, sight, life-giving water and salvation, and life restored. Jesus cared for those he encountered along the way.

Just as Jesus provided care, concern and hope to those individuals, we too are called to do the same. We are the presence of Christ NOW.

As our seasonal song gently, yet repeatedly, reminds us:

“We are called to act with justice, we are called to love tenderly, we are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God!”

We are called to do this with our every breath and ounce of energy.

To help us live this call together, we are focusing our energies as a parish during this Lenten season to feeding the hungry.

We are asking you to bring donations for the North Hills Food Bank to Mass every weekend during Lent. Please place your weekly donations around the large cross in the sanctuary on the old side of the church. You can do this before or after Mass.

Our spiritual journey during Lent is not just about turning away from sin. It is about allowing the presence and love of God to TRANSFORM US just as the people we encounter in the readings are transformed.

Their lives were changed forever and they became Jesus’s witnesses to the world. Let us become TRANSFORMED.
