Father Kevin Fazio wrote the following in his Nov. 19, 2017 bulletin message: I regularly walk the campus with my head up in observation of buildings and grounds condition, and very early in 2015 noticed the deterioration of the east/old side front entrance façade. When the contractors were repairing the west/new side skylight (and had a crane on campus), we asked them to take a look at the east/old side as well. These photographs were taken at that time. You can see the extensive work that absolutely needs to be done. There are rust and gaping holes at the base of the tower and at the corners of the front façade, which are allowing water to enter the building and cause damage. You can see the interior damage for yourself in the bell tower vestibule and on the balcony wall and ceiling. There is also a need for extensive brick work on the chimneys.
Our traditional Harvest Home Dinner & Festival was held under gorgeous sunny skies on Sept. 11. Our delicious dinner featured grilled chicken, ham, pulled pork and side dishes made from produce fresh from local farms. The festival events included a Chinese Auction, games, festival foods, a Country Store, Treasures from the Attic and Selfie Scene. We thank all of our volunteers and donors who ensured the weekend was a success!
For the first time, St. Alphonsus kicked off its annual Harvest Home celebration with a 5K run/walk in North Park. Nearly 300 runners and walkers participated in the First Annual St. Alphonsus Harvest Home 5K Twilight Run/Walk on Friday, Sept. 9, in North Park. A One-Mile Kids’ Fun Run kicked off activities at 6 p.m.; the 5K followed about a half hour later.
As St. Alphonsus School celebrates its 125th anniversary, its students were encouraged to wear historic or futuristic uniforms on Friday, March 13 — the 125th day of school. An afternoon parade in the Ryan Center featured students dressed in what they imagined school uniforms looked like 125 years ago or what they will look like 125 years in the future. The previous day, the students celebrated with a "Happy 125th Birthday" cake in the cafeteria.
