The primary goal of the Music Ministry is to enhance the celebration of the Mass and other liturgical services with appropriate music. This includes the singing of hymns and anthems and the use of instrumental music to establish a background for prayer. Adults in the Music Ministry are fully certified through the Safe Environment / Protecting God’s Children program.
If you are interested in participating in our Music Ministry, please contact: Music Director Mary Heagy at 724-538-5258 or MusicDirector@SaintAlphonsusWexford.org.

The choir also sings at the Advent Lessons and Carols, Tenebrae, Confirmation, Anointing of the Sick and other celebrations. The choir is always looking for new people to join the group.
Bell Choir performs at special liturgies. Adults, youths and teens are encouraged to join.
Cantors sing at the 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. Sunday Masses. Music Director Mary Heagy will train cantors on an individual basis. More cantors are always welcome.
The Children’s Choir (first through eighth grade students) practices during the school year on Thursdays at 8 a.m. in the Seelos Academy music room and on Sundays at 10:30 a.m. in the church. Parents choose which practice is best for their child to attend.
Children’s Christmas Choir—The Children’s Christmas Choir presents a Christmas Cantata before the Liturgy on Christmas Eve. Any child—in kindergarten or older— from our school, parish or Religious Education for Children program is welcome to participate. Teens and adults are welcome to participate as well. Join with your child and make it a family tradition! We are always looking for singers and instrumentalists (guitar, trumpet, flute or clarinet). We begin to practice in late October.
Instrumentalists—We are looking for instrumentalists of all ages. Instrumental practices for Seelos Academy students are held at 8 a.m. on Tuesdays in the church. Students in our Religious Education for Children program are welcome to play also; Music Ministry Director Mary Heagy meets with them on an individual basis. Adult instrumentalists should contact Mrs. Heagy to set up a practice time. Mrs. Heagy will gladly train anyone to play instrumental parts that accompany the acclamations we sing at our liturgies: the Gloria, the Gospel Alleluia, Holy Holy, the Memorial acclamations, the Amen, and the Lamb of God. In addition, we learn several hymns throughout the course of the year.
Passion Play—Each Lenten season, St. Alphonsus performs a musical Passion Play, “Make Us Believers.” The play was written by Bob Summers, a former parishioner and youth minister at St. Alphonsus. Students, adults and entire families perform in the play and help with production. All are welcome to participate. The performance is open to the public.
