Men’s Fellowship Update: The Story of Loaves & Fishes
Have you ever thought about the Gospel story of the Loaves and the Fishes from the perspective of a person in the crowd – someone who might have been hot (or cold), tired, hungry, and straining to hear and see this guy whom everyone is talking about?
That is what the Men’s Fellowship will do at its next meeting on Monday, Aug. 7, at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria when it discusses the Gospel story. All men are invited and encouraged to attend.
The men also plan to attend the First Friday Mass as a group on Aug. 4 at 7 a.m. – they are looking to fill up a pew or two so please join them.
On Saturday, Aug. 5, the men will meet at 3 p.m. at the Old Gym (under the new / west side of church) to help volunteers clean up after the Annual Used Clothing Sale. This is a great fundraiser — proceeds from the clothing sale benefit our annual Passion Play. If you come early, you might find a good deal or two on men’s clothes!
The Men’s Fellowship also is considering meeting as a group for Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration will be held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on two Thursdays in August – Aug. 3 and 10. Stay tuned for times and future dates. (This will be discussed at the Aug. 7 meeting.)
At the July 24 meeting, the men discussed the Gospel from Matthew 12:38-42 in which the scribes and Pharisees ask Jesus for a sign.
“We discussed signs and miracles in our lives today. We agreed that God’s signs and miracles are all around us, but we must be open and faithful to be able to hear, see and understand them,” group co-leader Dick Heilman said. In an email to the group, he encouraged men who could not make the meeting to think about God’s miracles in their lives.
The Men’s Fellowship meetings center on that day’s Gospel (for the day of the meeting). The men discuss their faith and how they live it in their day-to-day lives.
