What is the Church’s policy on low-gluten hosts?
The Holy See’s Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments released a letter on June 15, the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, that reiterated standing policies. The letter is titled “Circular Letter to the Bishops on the Bread and Wine for the Eucharist”.
What seemed to catch people’s attention was the policy on low-gluten hosts. Hosts must contain at least a very small portion of gluten to be valid matter for the Eucharist. Currently, there are only four suppliers that offer valid matter for the Eucharist as approved by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Committee on Divine Worship. No other manufacturers may be used.
If you need to receive low-gluten hosts, please call the parish office at 724-935-1151 or email secretary@SaintAlphonsusWexford.org. Questions? Please contact the Diocesan Department for Liturgy and Worship at 412-456-3041 or email email@example.com.
