 Serving God, Serving Others

November is a “reminder” month of thanksgiving and offering oneself for the benefit of others.  Opportunities to serve God and each other are plentiful.

A few folks have recently asked me about ways to serve, as the desire to give back is embedded in our hearts.

Please regularly read the E-News and this bulletin, and visit for updated information regarding all of our ministries at the parish, and other ministries in our community at large.

Of particular interest, as has been brought to my attention this week, are the following:

Altar Servers

We recently trained nine new altar servers, and they are already beginning to serve at Mass. This is uplifting and refreshing for those of us who worship God together as brothers and sisters united in Jesus.  If you have a child or grandchild, niece or nephew interested in participating in this ministry, but missed the training sessions, please contact our altar servers coordinator, Katrina Schlichtkrull, at and arrange for a time to be introduced to this worthy ministry.

Sanctuary Committee (Merry Marthas)

These are the folks who prepare God’s House for worship. They ensure our sanctuary’s décor reflects the liturgical seasons (Advent, Lent, Holy Week, Christmas, Easter and more). They also help keep the church tidy, neat, and clean…behind the scenes!  These volunteers meet Monday and Friday mornings in the church.  Please contact coordinators Linda Skender at 412-478-7629 or Lisa Davis at 412-389-0877 or email them at to be a part of this vital ministry.

Men’s Fellowship Group

This revived ministry brings men closer to Jesus through prayer/worship, dialogue, service, and fellowship.  Coordinator Dick Heilman regularly writes about the Men’s Fellowship in the bulletin and E-News after their every-other-week Monday evening meetings. You can contact him at or 412-977-0997 for more information.

Bethlehem Haven Women’s Shelter

Our Bethlehem Haven Ministry is a wonderful opportunity for women of our parish to feed and support other women in need, as our volunteers prepare, deliver, and serve meals to homeless women in Pittsburgh on the second Saturday of every month. Please contact ministry coordinator Marchell Palguta at 412-298-4975 or if you are interested.

Gold Club

A newly formed group of seniors called the Gold Club is being led by Norma and Tom Heyl, Ruth Kavanagh, and Marian Mancino. The club members plan to attend the 9am Mass together (last few rows on right side of old / east side of church) on Wednesday, Nov. 15, then head to Panera after Mass for food and fellowship and dialogue.  They’ll even give you a ride if you need one — call Norma at 724-935-1094, Marian at 724-934-1939 or Ruth at 412-855-4954.

These are just a few of the many ways to enter into a deeper relationship with the Body of Christ!

The happiest, most joy-filled people seem to be the ones who give of themselves.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Kevin C. Fazio
