Jesus and His Mother

Most, if not all, of us are quite aware of the affection and admiration that the Church has for Mary, Mother of God, and Mother of the Church.  There is a relationship that exists amongst God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit that is like no other, yet is also totally available to people who are open to this communion.  The woman through whom Jesus was born into humanity had no idea what, or who the Holy Trinity was at the time of Jesus’ conception in her womb, yet she accepted this communion with humility and grace, because she somehow trusted (amidst her fears and anxieties) in God.

In a prayer that was part of his Act of Entrustment to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. John Paul II wrote:

Mother of all individuals and peoples, you know all their sufferings and hopes.  In your motherly heart you feel all the struggles between good and evil, between light and darkness, that convulse the world…Take under your motherly protection the whole human family, which with affectionate love we entrust to you, O Mother.  May there dawn for everyone the time of peace and freedom, the time of truth, of justice, and of hope.

Happy Mother’s Day to all mothers in our community, and in the world!

Yours in Christ,
