Summer Commences

As the Easter Season and school year end, summer begins with a flurry of activity here at St. Alphonsus.

Proposed Parish Grouping — The deadline to send us your feedback about the St. Alphonsus-St. Alexis proposed parish grouping is Monday, June 5, at noon. For details and directions on how to send in your feedback, click here.

Blood Drive – We invite you to roll up your sleeves to donate blood at Sunday’s (June 4) annual Blood Drive from 7 a.m. to noon in the Small Gym under the new (west) side of the church. It doesn’t take long and your donation could save lives!

Graduates’ Blessing & Breakfast – Next weekend we will continue our tradition of blessing our high school and college graduates at the end of the 9:30 a.m. Mass. Afterward, the graduates and their families are invited to a breakfast reception in the cafeteria that will be hosted by our Hospitality Committee. Please RSVP by the Sunday, June 4. Click here for details.

Flea Market – We’ve been getting so many donations for our Flea Market that we’ve now rented a THIRD trailer to hold everything! The Flea Market will be held on Friday and Saturday, June 9-10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This fundraiser usually raises thousands of dollars for our parish. Please come out to support it and invite everyone you know. We need lots of volunteers to make this happen – please consider volunteering. Click here for details.

Faith, Football & Food — Pittsburgh Steelers’ General Manager Kevin Colbert will present a film of Steeler highlights from the 2016 season, followed by a Q&A about faith and football, on Monday, June 12, in the Ryan Center. Our Men’s Fellowship will be grilling burgers and hot dogs for a picnic-style dinner to go along with the film. We’ll start serving food and beverages at 6:30 p.m. Please RSVP by noon on Friday, June 9 – so we can get a head count for food – by calling 724-935-1151 or rsvp@SaintAlphonsusWexford.org. No charge, but we will ask for a freewill offering.

Vacation Church & Bible Camp — Our theme for this summer’s camp is “ROME: St. Paul & the Underground Church.” It will be held from 9 a.m. to noon daily from June 19 to 23. One of the central attractions at the camp will be an ancient Roman marketplace, where the kids will meet and interact with different individuals, who will help to tell the story. For details on how to register or volunteer, click here.

St. Alphonsus 2017 Golf Classic – We need golfers to sign up for this fun event, which will be held on Tuesday, June 20, at Cranberry Highlands Golf Course with a 9 a.m. shotgun start. Join us for camaraderie, cheer and support of the St. Alphonsus community. Proceeds benefit the Parent-Teacher Learning Enrichment Fund for Blessed Francis Seelos Academy. Click here for details and to register.

Hoops for Life Camp — Our second annual Hoops for Life camp will be held from June 26 through 29 at the Ryan Center to teach student-athletes life lessons as well as basketball skills to girls and boys who will be entering 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grades in the fall. Click here for details about how to register.

Security Cameras — Cabling is being laid in the school building for the installation of exterior security cameras, which will be tied in with cameras already installed in the church. Northern Regional Police Department will be able to access the camera system to view what is going on in real time on our campus.

Stone Sign — The stone “St. Alphonsus Church” sign in front of the school — which was originally placed at the parish entrance on Church Road — was made to be viewed from both sides. Currently, only one side can be viewed, so we will be moving this sign to the grassy area outside the church near the Mary statue.

Paving – Our parking lot will be paved, starting in the first week of July.

Air Conditioning – We are still getting bids and ideas about air conditioning for the church building. We will keep you informed as this process moves forward.

Parish Share – We have collected more than 78 percent of our Parish Share assessment of $127,330! Once we reach our assessment goal, all funds in excess of that amount stay in the parish. Thank you for your generosity!

Yours in Christ,
