From Our Pastor – July 2, 2017 Bulletin Message
Thanksgiving in Summer
Many thanks to many people for their contributions to our camps this month: Vacation Church & Bible Camp and Hoops for Life basketball camp … different ways of building up the Kingdom of God on earth in preparation for the eternal Kingdom of Heaven!
I personally want to thank our Hoops for Life organizers, coaches, speakers and helpers for giving of their time and offering our children a chance to learn, grow, and play the great game of basketball, including:
A special thanks to Pat Cavanaugh and Come Ready Nutrition for providing us with t-shirts, backpacks, protein bars and snacks.
Security cameras are currently being installed on the school building. This system will be tied into the camera system already in place in the church building. Northern Regional Police Department will have the capability to view the camera coverage in real time. This project should be completed by the end of August.
More parking lot paving and repairs will commence the first week of July, weather permitting.
The St. Alphonsus Church granite sign soon will be relocated from the front of the school building to the grassy area in front of the Blessed Mother statue.
On Mission Update
Thank you to everyone who submitted more feedback by June 8 pertaining to the On Mission for the Church Alive! initiative that will reorganize the entire diocese. While no final decisions have yet been made, it seems like we are headed toward merging with St. Alexis Parish, just as our schools are merging this fall to form Blessed Francis Seelos Academy. Hopefully, our school merger will help foster community and be a springboard to our parish merger as we transition into — God-willing — an even more vibrant and alive church!
All priests of the diocese will have the opportunity to meet with Bishop Zubik in small groups and discuss their own concerns, hopes, and dreams pertaining to On Mission. My meeting with him is scheduled for late July.
In addition, each priest will have the opportunity during the fall months to meet and discuss similar topics with Fr. Mark Eckmann, who is in charge of clergy personnel for the diocese.
All of this, and more, is in preparation for Bishop Zubik’s parish realignment announcements in the spring of 2018.
July is a popular month for vacations, and it will be for me too this year. I will be at the beach with my family from July 13 – 21, enjoying some recreation and relaxation, things we all need in order to live a balanced life. There will be priests pinch-hitting for me at daily and weekend Masses, and for anointings and funerals.
At Masses on July 22-23, we will welcome Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu for our Mission Appeal weekend. He is from Tanzania, Africa, and will be celebrating and/or preaching at all of the Masses that weekend.
Lastly, I am going to take a little break from writing these Pastor’s Notes, starting back up again in August.
I pray for you every day, and I thank you for all of your prayers and support!
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Kevin C. Fazio
