Fish Fry Continues to Serve Record Numbers
We are feeding record numbers of customers on Lenten Fridays – far more than we have served in the past.
“The numbers were overwhelming,” Co-Chair Mike Cuddy said after our Fish Fry volunteers served between 2,100 and 2,200 meals on the third Friday in Lent (March 2). A year ago, our Fish Fry was serving about 1,400 meals in an evening and the increase was impossible to predict.
Consider this: We served over 1,100 pounds of fish, 200 pounds of coleslaw and about 1,000 sandwich buns along with shrimp, macaroni & cheese, French fries, baked potatoes, clam chowder, tomato Florentine, applesauce, bread and beverages in a mere three hours with an all-volunteer crew!
“The response has been unbelievable and we appreciate all the customers who support our Fish Fry,” Mike continued. “But this past weekend we exceeded our capacity and had long lines for our dine-in customers and long waits for the takeout customers. Our guests showed amazing patience but we want them to know that this is not acceptable to us. We have already made changes to bring us back to our normal service levels.
“We want customers and volunteers to have a great experience when they come here. The food is delicious and we are committed to serving our guests as quickly as possible. However, customers should be aware that there may still be waits during extremely busy times as we implement our changes. This applies to advance orders as well. It is also possible that ‘walk-in’ takeout orders may be suspended at certain times during the night. Advance call-in and online orders will be prioritized. Nonetheless, we don’t expect wait times anywhere near what we experienced last Friday, we’ll have much more food ready to go this week.”
Mike highly recommends using our online ordering system for takeout orders by going to fish-fry.org between noon and 6:45 p.m. on Lenten Fridays.
Our parking lot is at capacity on Fish Fry evenings, so we encourage people to carpool.
We thank and applaud Fish Fry Co-Chairs Frank McSorley and Mike Cuddy and fish fry coordinators and the scores of volunteers who somehow manage to provide so many meals every Friday!
