The Religious Education Program oversees the faith formation of adults and children in the parish.
Religious Education for Children
The Catholic Church has always regarded instructing the children in the faith as being central to her mission to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations (Matthew 28:19). She also sees the parents/guardians as the first faith teachers of their children (Ephesians 6:4).
Our goal in the Religious Education Program is to reach out to the entire family—parents/guardians as well as children, those who’ve already received the sacraments as well as the uncatechized.
With this goal in mind, religious education classes are offered during the school year to students from kindergarten through eighth grade. Classes are held on Monday evenings from 6 to 7:15 p.m. For families who have difficulty attending classes on Monday nights, a homeschooling program is available. For details, contact Religious Education Director Louis Bosco at ReligiousEd@SaintAlphonsusWexford.org or 724-935-1151 ext 213.

RCIA—the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults— is available for adults who are not baptized or in full communion with the Catholic Church. Sessions are held annually to instruct them on having a fuller Christian life in the Catholic Church.
The Rite of Christian Initiation for Children—known as RCIC—is the equivalent program for children over 7 years of age who have not been baptized or received Holy Communion.
The program usually begins in the fall and culminates at the Easter Vigil Mass. Please inquire about either program by calling the parish office at 724-935-1151 ext. 210 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
An important part of our mission to teach the faith to our children is Vacation Church & Bible Camp. The camp is offered for one week every summer, and features puppet shows, pony rides, outdoor games, crafts, snacks, and music, all designed to help the children grow closer to Jesus and His Church. Registration is open to children from kindergarten through sixth grade. We also need adult and teen volunteers.
