Our Bethlehem Haven Ministry has a new coordinator – Marchell Palguta.

This ministry prepares and serves dinner on the second Saturday of each month for the homeless women of Bethlehem Haven’s emergency shelter on Watson Street in downtown Pittsburgh.

It was founded by parishioner Barb Griffith 15 years ago; she has been the coordinator ever since. Under her leadership, St. Alphonsus was awarded the “Compassion” award by Bethlehem Haven in 2014 for “deep awareness of the suffering of another and the wish to relieve it.”

Marchell and her husband, Alan, have been members of the parish since 1992 when they moved to this area. Their two daughters attended St. Alphonsus School.  Marchell has been volunteering with Bethlehem Haven for over 10 years and has been involved in various committees, events and volunteer activities/ministries with the parish and school through the years.

“I continue to be passionate in working with this incredible organization and in making a positive contribution to the homeless women of Pittsburgh with the support of our church and its wonderful volunteers,” Marchelll said.
