Advent: A Special Time for Adoration with our Lord
By Deacon Albert Heiles
As many of you know, St. Alphonsus sets aside two days every month for an all-day Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Usually, the time slots between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. on the selected Thursdays are filled with at least one person spending a half hour to an hour with our Lord. It’s a special time because the church is very quiet, the lights are low and our church takes on a more personal time for some one-on-one with our Lord.
The season of Advent offers an even greater opportunity to experience Adoration. With so much going on in the world and all the things that have to get done between Thanksgiving and Christmas, taking time to sit and be still is just what we need to keep everything in the right perspective.
Some people come in and pray. Others just sit and listen for the Lord to speak to their hearts. It’s a time to S L O W down and invite the Lord into our busy lives.
Adoration for this month will be on Dec. 14 and 21. We begin at 9 a.m. with opening prayers and conclude at 7 p.m. with Benediction. You are welcome any time between those hours. How wonderful it would be if the church was visited by as many parishioners as possible for the two Adoration days in December.
Please set aside a little time for a personal visit with Jesus in this special time of year to make Advent more meaningful as we prepare for Christmas. A personal relationship with our Lord is the greatest gift of all.
